This recipe is spectacular. Love the fragrant orange zest + almond. I reserved a small portion of the dough to make an almond-paste filled challah spiral and it was out of this world.

Thank you! I love it too :)

I accidentally put the sugar into the dough because I didn’t read the entire recipe! I’ve made challah a million times and thought the recipe had left it out! Hoping it’ll still be delicious. Stay tuned!

I’m glad you followed your gut (and challah wisdom) and put the sugar into the dough!

Ooof, you’re right! The step of adding the remainder of the sugar (it gets mixed with the flour and salt) got deleted. Updating the recipe to reflect that. I’m sorry for that!

Oh my goodness! I’m glad then that my instincts were right! I made 4 spirals so that I can gift them! I didn’t mix any sugar with the almonds, was I still supposed to, or was the sugar only supposed to be inside the dough? I couldn’t resist tearing off a piece to try and WOW is it good! Can’t wait to make it again!Have you ever tried Steven Raichlen’s honey vanilla challah from his Healthy Jewish Cooking book? It is very good too!

Yes, you're also supposed to sprinkle a little extra sugar over top along with the almonds before baking.

So glad you enjoyed it. :) I'm going to make a note in this week's newsletter about the typo, and direct people to the recipe archive on the website, which is now updated. Thanks again! I haven't made Steven Raichlen's challah, but it sounds amazing.

Your challah looks beautiful and the flavor sounds delicious! I love to make stuffed challot to bring additional flavors and textures to my loaves...just adds a bit of time and often some frustration, but any homemade challah is worth the effort.

Halva or almond paste! Apple butter too.

All sound delicious! I think I’m going to make a fig-rosemary-cacao jam and try that as a filling.
